What’s On My Mind Monday: BBC Sports Survey Finds Women In Sports Face Abuse On Social Media

Written by on August 10, 2020

Catching up on news stories over the weekend and stumbled upon this article’s sportswomen and social media. BBC Sports did a survey on sportswomen and the effects social media trolls have on the athletes. It’s an interesting read when you have a minute the article is lengthy. But, it gets into how women are paid less, how female athletes are body shamed, and sexism in sports.

Now the survey was done on British women in sports but I’m sure women athletes everywhere deal with the issues in the survey. So that led me to this question how are female athletes in America treated on social media? Especially, star high school and college sportswomen?

After reading the BBC survey you can’t help but ask these questions. And if they are being trolled what are coaches, schools, and organizations doing about it?

Also, I’d like to know from social media platforms who are trolled the most in general men or women? What safeguards are in place to curve the trolling?

Freedom of speech is you right but NOT when you are tearing others down.

And that’s what’s on my mind Monday.
