Emmett Till’s story has yet to be told on the big screen and Taraji P. Henson confirmed she will take on that task along with director John Singleton.
Taraji P. Henson will produce and star in the Emmett Till story and John Singleton will direct the movie.
Henson told Global Grind “We don’t have a start date yet, but the deal definitely has been done. That’s one [film] that I’ve been passionate about since Trayvon Martin was murdered.”
Henson will play Emmett’s mother Mamie Till-Mobley whose decision to leave Emmett’s casket open so the world could see his disfigured body.
A white woman, Carolyn Bryant told her husband and his half brother that Emmet whistled at her they kidnapped him out of his home, beat him, shot him in the head then dumped him in the river.
His killers were never faced jail time. Emmett’s mothers decision to leave his casket open added fuel to the Civil Right’s Movement.
Fast forward to 2017 the white woman, Carolyn Bryant admitted she lied and made the story up.
So glad this story is finally being told the way it should be. Thank you Taraji P. Henson!
