Tiger King Series Inspired New Big Cat Bill Banning Big Cats For Pets In All 50 States

Written by on December 7, 2020

Welp! It looks like the Netflix show Tiger King did more than provide something for the public to watch but it helped create a new bill. The new bill which passed in The House would ban public contact and possession of big cats.

The bill is called The Big Cat Public Safety Act and it adds updates to the rules regarding big cats. It is specific to naming jaguars, lions, tigers, cheetahs, cougars, leopards, and or any hybrids of any of these species. The bill will ban direct contact between the public and the animals to keep both safe. This would end roadside zoos that breed tigers for people to pet and take photos with.

It would also ban people from keeping tigers as pets in all 50 states. This will protect the animals from cruelty and abuse but also protect the public.

The bill still has to pass in the Senate even though it passed in the House.
