  3. Hello Melanie, I’m Leslie C. Youngblood. I landed a two-book publishing deal with Disney-Hyperion for my middle-grade novel LOVE LIKE SKY (ages 8-12). LOVE LIKE SKY follows two African American sisters, ages 11 and 6, as they adjust to a “blended” family (Parents divorced and eventually married “other people.” Sisters are living with mom and stepdad). The first book is scheduled for Nov. 2018. I was raised in Rochester. My parents have lived in the 19th Ward for over 30 years. I’m proud to be a part of Rochester’s thriving literary scene. Returning home made all the difference for me. I hope to share more of my journey with WDKX listeners. Thank you!

  5. Hi Melanie, my name is Nigel Carrington and I’m the owner of Starr Skills Comic Books for Charity. I moved from Trinidad in 2001 to New York State with a love for script writing and art. I tried to get into movie making but quickly found out that it would take too much money to get movies made, so I decided to get into making comic books instead. So I made my own line of comic books and decided to give my profit to charitable organizations to give a helping hand to my community.
