Black Fact Of The Day!

Did you know that the dustpan you use to sweep up trash and dirt with was patented by an African-American?

Lloyd Ray born in 1860 made a device with a metal collection plate attached to a short wooden handle that trash could be swept up without touching it. Prior to Lloyd Ray’s invention, people would sweep dirt, dust, and trash out of a door.

The device he designed was the dustpan. It was patent on August 3, 1897, and was only the United States 165th patent. It has not varied much from the original design of over 120 years ago.
