Senate Might Extend Enhanced Unemployment While Deciding On New Relief Package

Written by on July 23, 2020

Republicans are working with White House officials to determine if a short-term extension of enhanced unemployment benefits is the right move.

While the Democrats and Republicans are arguing over a new relief package, the millions of unemployed Americans that have been relying on the extra money from the government are biting their nails. The extra $600 / week from enhanced unemployment is set to expire on July 31, but the virus is still here and there aren’t any solutions in place yet.

The proposed $3 trillion Democratic relief package was pronounced “dead in the water” by many Republicans as soon as it went from the House of Representatives to the Senate floor. Republicans are still coming up with a solution of their own, but in the meantime there are talks about extending the extra $600 support package.

This is an ongoing story.
