RCSD: East High Opens Barbershop For Students

Written by on October 26, 2021

Fixing to get a haircut? Look no further than Rochester’s own East High. The shop is officially called “The East Cutting Edge,” and will provide free haircuts to students at both East’s Upper and Lower schools. This barbershop came to be after a partnership between the school and the United Professional Barbers and Cosmetologists Association (UPBCA). This is the first of its kind in the Rochester City School District.

Willie Lightfoot, president of the UPBCA, stated: “The barbershop is where everybody comes together to conversations. It’s a place of encouragement, a place of openness, and it’s almost like a rite of passage of some degree for young men.”
