Officer Who Killed Eric Garner Issued A Verdict

It has been five years since the devastating death of Eric Garner, a man whose death has played an essential role in the Black Lives Matter movement. If you are not familiar with this story, let me just catch you up to speed.

In December of 2014, New York police officer, Daniel Pantaleo, stopped Eric Garner on the street in Staten Island for selling loose cigarettes. During the arrest, Pantaleo held Garner in a choke hold while Garner repeatedly yelled out “I can’t breathe”. After many disputes and movements to get justice for Garner’s death, it has recently been announced that there will be “No charges for the police officer in Eric garner death”.

This is extremely frustrating to our community. How many more African Americans are going to suffer from being beaten and killed by law enforcement, until we finally get justice? How many more officers are going to get away with killing innocent black men and women?
