NYC Democrat Brian Benjamin Picked By Gov. Hochul For Lieutenant Governor

State Senator Brian Benjamin has officially been named lieutenant governor of New York by current Governor Kathy Hochul. Senator Brian Benjamin, a Democrat from New York City, represents the state’s 30th senate district. Hochul stated that Benjamin will be sworn into the position shortly after Labor Day.
In coming Lieutenant Governor, Senator Brian Benjamin, will be New York State’s second Black lieutenant governor, after David Paterson, who took over as governor after the resignation of Eliot Spitzer in 2008. Hochul called Benjamin “a dear friend” and commended his work related to criminal justice reform, affordable housing, and tenant protections.
