Monroe County Expands Access to Naloxone

Written by on July 22, 2022

Yesterday, Monroe County announced the installation of naloxone cabinets to make the medication more available and help prevent overdose deaths. The generic form of Narcan, naloxone rapidly reverses overdoses by blocking the effects of opioids on the brain and restoring normal breathing.

In addition to the accessible medication, Monroe County is also launching a new 24-hour opioid hotline number, (585) 753-5300, that will be staffed by Improving Addiction Coordination Team (IMPACT) clinicians 24-7. The hotline will connect callers with crisis services, support, naloxone deliveries, training, and more.

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello stated: “All of our efforts to stem the opioid epidemic begin with saving lives. IMPACT has already distributed more than 3,500 doses of naloxone to the community but more is needed.”
