Local Grocery Chains Tops And Price Chopper Announce Merger

Tops an Pricechopper announced on Monday that they would be merging together, effectively doubling their footprint in the northeast.

As businesses struggle to deal with the pandemic, they have to find new and sometimes drastic measures to stay above water.

Scott Grimmett, the new company’s CEO, gave a statement, saying:

“This merger marks a major step forward and collectively elevates our ability to compete on every level.”

Between the two stores, the have around 30,000 employees and will continue to hire – according to the new Tops/Price Chopper chairman, Neil Golb.

“I’ve seen tremendous change in our industry across my 65-year career and have long been an advocate for the promise of innovation and partnership, like that which has driven this merger forward.”
