Last night on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon rap trio Griselda from Buffalo, N.Y. performed Dr. Bird’s off of their album WWCD.
If you are not familiar with Griselda may I suggest you check them out especially if you love hip hop. West Side Gunn, Conway The Machine, and Benny The Butcher together embody the core essence of hip hop before the southern sound took over.
They are raw, hardcore, and gritty. When I listen to them they take me back to that feeling I had when I first heard Wu-Tang Clan 36 Chambers – fresh, free, and mentally stimulated.
Why is Griselda performing on Jimmy Fallon such a big deal? Simple they are not mainstream, they are raw real hip hop. They are your favorite rappers rapper, they are not commercialized, they are themselves and went against what’s “trendy” to produce music in real life.
The rap trio may not be for everyone which is what makes them so beautiful. Yes, beautiful because it’s proving naysayers wrong and shows people are hungry for realness and hip hop.
Griselda was signed to Eminem’s Shady Records and they are managed by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.
Check out the historic moment for hip hop’s Griselda on Jimmy Fallon.
