Gov. Kathy Hochul Said She Not Extending The Eviction Moratorium

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced during a COVID-19 briefing that she would not extend state eviction moratorium again. It will end on Saturday (01/15). The state is reopening its application portal for eviction protection and rent relief. While the state doesn’t have the money to provide more rent relief right now, people who apply will get protection while the state reviews their application. A state judge ordered New York to reopen the application portal for now as the court considers a lawsuit. Lawmakers are working through other ways to help tenants.
