Frederick Douglass Statue Crime Gets National Coverage And A Tweet From The President

One of the Frederick Douglass statues were removed from its base and damaged Sunday overnight. The crime has received national attention. To add insult to injury, it was on the anniversary of his famous speech “What To The Slave Is The Fourth Of July.”

The statue was located in Maplewood Park. It stood where both Douglass and Harriet Tubman guided slaves to their freedom along the Underground Railroad.

Police recovered the statue by the Genesee River Gorge about 50 feet from its pedestal with damage to the base and finger. The crime has received coverage from national news outlets and was trending on Twitter Monday.

Tweets came from Jeb Bush, Meghan McCain, Donald Trump Jr., and yes, of course, President Trump.

The plot twist (I love plot twists) with Trumps’ tweet was the response by Mayor Lovely Warren. She tweeted Trump back regarding his divisiveness and lack of leadership with COVID-19.

Police are investigating this crime.
