Actor Jussie Smollett who plays Jamal Lyon on the TV series Empire was brutally attacked early Tuesday morning at a Subway restaurant in Chicago.
The two men who attack Jussie were wearing ski masks but according to TMZ they were caucasian. They yelled out racial slurs and “Aren’t you that fa**ot Empire ni**er* then attacked Jussie.
Jussie fought back but the two put a noose or “rope” around his neck and then poured bleach on him. As the fled they yelled “this is MAGA country.”
After the attack Jussie took himself to the hospital where he was treated and released. He is in good condition although he suffered a fractured rib.
Chicago police are investigating and stated due to the severity of the allegations it may be treated as a hate crime. Police have obtained footage from a nearby Target store.

According to TMZ the Empire staff called an emergency meeting with other cast members to let them know about the attack on Jussie. There was also a discussion about adding extra security while they are filming in Chicago.
Celebrities like Tracy Ellis Ross, Lee Daniels, Janelle Monae, Tyler Perry, Lala Anthony and many others shared their outrage and gave their love, prayers, and support for Jussie on social media.
This is not a joke. The hate that lives in the hearts of people because of the color of our skin is undeniably real and for our generation more blatant than it’s ever been.
