Written by on March 21, 2020

During a press conference on Monday afternoon, Monroe County Executive Adam Bello revealed an additional case of coronavirus – also known as COVID-19 – has been confirmed in the Rochester area.

The latest case brings the total in Monroe County to 11. Mr Bello said that the Department of Public Health in Monroe County is expected to provide additional updates on the current coronavirus situation on a daily basis.

Three of the infected individuals are currently hospitalized – one is at Unity Hospital, another is at Highland Hospital and a third is at Rochester General Hospital. The remaining infected individuals are currently in self-isolation at their respective homes.

One of the latest infected individuals is understood to be an employee of Greece Athena High School. Of the 11 cases reported so far, 4 are understood to have a direct connection to the school employee, who had tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday.

Public health officials released a statement yesterday to highlight that they have started a contact tracing process on each of the infected individuals to find out who they may have recently come into contact with. The purpose of this is to prevent or contain any further spread of the virus and protect vulnerable persons.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Rochester citizens are advised to cancel social engagements and postpone any planned face-to-face meetings where possible.
