Derrick Barnett is revered as “Dancehall’s Greatest Live Bassist” and has held the title for more than 30 years since he formed the Sagittarius Band in the 1980’s.
Barnett is not only a skilled bassist, he also excels at the guitar, drums, keyboard, singing and songwriting. Ever since the inception of the Sagittaruis Band, Barnett has toured worldwide performing as the backing band for the likes of Yellow Man, Toots Hibbert, Marcia Griffiths, Sister Nancy, Eek A Mouse and Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers.
He has even crossed over into other genres working with artists like Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, The Manhattans, Little Kim, Missy Elliot, Busta Rhymes, Lauren Hill, and more.
Derrick Barnett also works behind the scenes heavily in production. He has produced chart topping hits for many of the reggae greats including Kymani Marley, Lady Saw, Cobra, Buju Banton, Wayne Wonder, Dennis Brown, Beres Hammond, and so many more.
