Democratic Leaders Pen Letter To CDC Urging Vaccinations For Educators

Written by on December 19, 2020

Since the coronavirus vaccine arrived in the US, talks have shifted from when will it get here? To who will get it first?

Everyone agreed that first responders should be first in line, as they are closest to the virus and have the most exposure to it – but who should get it second?

Democratic leaders are pushing for educators to be in the second group of recipients. If teachers get sick or have to quarantine, then schools get shut down. If teachers are vaccinated first, there will be a good chance students can return to school.

A letter signed by 25 Democratic leaders urging the CDC to include educators in the second round of vaccinations read:

“Prioritizing COVID- 19 vaccinations for K-12 educators and school personnel recognizes the essential work of these professionals, enables a safer return to in-person instruction, and provides the means necessary for tens of millions of workers to breathe life into the American economy.”
