The Winner Is… placard with bokeh background

I recently had a discussion with a couple of women about the female rap group, City Girls, where one of the women expressed her dislike for the group because of their content and vulgar language.

Now, I hear this point a lot when it comes to the City Girls’ music. However, consider the point that I bring up.. how can you love SWV when many of their songs position them as being the other woman?

The lyrics in one of their popular songs, “You’re The One” reads:

“I know you’re someone else’s guy
But these feelings that I have for you I can’t deny
She doesn’t treat you the way you want her to
So stop running I want to get with you”

Another one of their big songs, “I’m So Into You” states:

“Friends ask how can I give myself
To the one who belongs to someone else
They don’t know
Your love so good”

I’m not the biggest City Girls fan, but I disagree when people come at them about the content of their music when some of the greatest sounding music that we grew up on is just as bad, if not worse!

I think the delivery of the songs from the artist makes a difference when it comes to what content is accepted and what isn’t.

Just one man’s opinion.
