Brighton’s Whole Foods Plaza Heads to Trial

April 29, 2022

If you’ve been down Monroe Ave into Brighton recently, you might have noticed the gigantic Whole Foods Plaza that is set to open. Well, following years of controversy and legal challenges, the Whole Foods Plaza project is going to trial. The reason being? It’s just too big! A State Supreme Court Judge has scheduled a trial to begin on December 5, 2022. If the community wins, they will be able to force a public vote to reduce the size of the plaza, and fix the traffic gridlock that will result from this oversized project.

Howie Jacobson, President of Brighton Grassroots, one of three community groups participating in the trial, stated: “We’re very pleased with the Court’s response. We’re fine with having Whole Foods there. But the overall plaza is too big and packed with too many buildings. Traffic is already a nightmare and parking will be just as bad. Anyone who drives by it can already see that.”
