Billy Porter offers stay-at-home fun with virtual quarantine fashion challenges

April 16, 2020

Billy Porter has been trying to help his fans and others maintain a positive mindset during self-isolation and stay-at-home orders by giving them fashion challenges on Instagram. The 50-year-old performer and fashionista calls these events his “Quarantine Fashion Challenge.”

In the first challenge, he asked fans to recreate the ensemble designed by The Blonds for him for the 2019 Met Gala using items they could only find in their homes. The response to the challenge was huge. Per Porter: “Y’all, I’m blown away by the incredible response to my Quarantine Fashion Challenge. So many chic and fabulous lewks!”

Since the success of that event, Porter has taken the #QuarantineeFashionChallenge tag to the next level by using it to challenge people to show off their best and favorite couch potato outfits in a virtual fashion show.

“Get off the couch and shoot a video of yourself giving me your fiercest runway walk in your chicest couch potato / #StayAtHome lewk!,” said Porter on Instagram earlier this week.

Anyone who submits a video must “strut their stuff” and show off their “couch potato realness.” Porter doesn’t care what people wear as long as they show off their personal sense of style and make themselves look and feel good while participating in the challenge.

So far, people have submitted videos of themselves strutting while wearing tracksuits, homemade clothes, t-shirts and shorts, pajamas, blankets and even masks. Anyone who wants to participate in the current challenge or receive updates about future ones can find information on Porter’s @theebillyporter Instagram account.
