After the announcement of the retirement of Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, who was nominated by President Bill Clinton in 1994 and played a key role on the court in cases preserving the Affordable Care Act and upholding a woman’s right to access abortion services, it will now be up to President Biden for a replacement. Many are now calling on Biden to go through with his 2020 campaign pledge, where President Biden would tap a Black woman to be his nominee to the Supreme Court if he got the chance. According to Biden, he plans to do just that; “The person I will nominate will be someone of extraordinary qualifications, character, experience, and integrity. And that person will be the first Black woman ever nominated to the United States Supreme Court.”
