ART IMITATES LIFE

In 2005, a film was released entitled “V For Vendetta”. It’s about a totalitarian dictatorship that gains it’s power by creating a society of fear through an alleged virus spreading throughout the world.
During the film, you see how media can push fear-based propaganda throughout the city streets and on television. The authoritarian dictator makes promises of high security but, the idea of freedom isn’t a part of the plan. There is a constant theme of “this is for your safety” repeated throughout the movie. As with most movies with villains, the good guys always overcome the evil. This one ends with society walking up and the corrupt, fascist regime is dismantled. The weird thing is, this film was set in the year 2020.
