Rochester Police announced Tuesday they have charged a Chili man in connection with the mass shooting on Genesee Street last month. Police arrested Johnny Blackshell, Jr., 21, of Chili and charged him with first-degree murder for the shooting outside the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester on Genesee Street last month. On August 19, three people were killed and four injured when multiple suspects started shooting at a crowd of people leaving a late-night basketball game inside the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester.
Killed in that shooting were Raekwon Manigault, 19, Jonah Barkley, 17, and Johnny Johnson, 25. Police said the victims injured in the shooting were Billy Williams, 26, Carey Bradley, 19, Anthony Jones, 24, and Carl Canty, 29 – all of Rochester.
Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley said Blackshell used an AK-47 to shoot Manigault, Barkley and Johnson. Doorley said all three were shot in the head, which caused their deaths. Blackshell was arrested on August 24 and charged with criminal possession of a weapon 2nd and criminal possession of a weapon 3rd for a .25 semi-automatic handgun found with him, in violation of his parole. This was an arrest unrelated to the Genesee Street shooting. Blackshell was also charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property 4th, along with two other men, for the theft of more than $2,500 worth of clothing from Eastview Mall. Several Ralph Lauren shirts, jeans, jackets and other clothing items were stolen, according to court records. Blackshell was on parole for an attempted burglary conviction.
