First and foremost Melany J. Silas put together an incredible event for the Arts which highlighted dynamic Artists within our community to celebrate MJS Productions 5th Anniversary! From Poetry, Visual Arts, Theatre, Music, and Dance the evening was full of talent along with Keynote Speaker Mathew Knowles. It was definitely an honor to be a part of the Artist Celebration & Award Showcase!

There is a LOT of talent in Rochester here are photos of some of the honorees and performers

So with all of that said I would now like to share my personal experience and what I walked away with from that evening. #Priceless

Fear is a funny thing. It will stop you from achieving success, hinder your growth, and not to mention it will keep you from meeting some very amazing people.

Now I have to admit I was a bit disappointed in myself with hosting the event this past Friday. Lord knows that I am super critical of myself and I felt that I did not do a great job hosting and worst of all I let Melany down.

After stumbling over a couple of words at the beginning I literally started telling myself “see I told you, you should of passed on the opportunity and just said no so Melany could of found someone better to do the job”. As the evening went on I was so afraid of messing up that I continued to make mistakes because I had my mind set on failure. I couldn’t pull myself together all I kept thinking was I’m letting everyone down and I’m not good enough.

Then a funny thing happened (God works in wonderful ways!) right before Mathew Knowles walked out to on the stage to speak he pulled me to the side and said you are doing a great job. I looked at him like he was crazy at the same time thinking to myself “this dude is tripping..yeah right..okay”. Boy oh boy did I eat those words 5 minutes later he knew what he was doing like he said “nothing just happens everything is strategic”.

Mr. Knowles hit that stage and commanded everyones attention! I tell you one thing his energy is super positive and he speaks life into all situations and most importantly people (sounds like Andre Langston). He talked about how to be successful within you and how to transform dreams into your reality- dream big, think big. I could clearly see why his daughter’s Beyonce & Solange are as successful as they are.

He started with his saying “It ain’t perfect, but we work towards perfection”. Mr. Knowles began to break down what steps, strategy, and adjustments one should make to be a success no matter what you want to do in life be it a doctor, lawyer, entertainer. He also stressed that the only way you will fail is by failing to plan, everything else is just a learning experience. You will not fail if you do… so don’t try just do!

Mr. Knowles then put me in the box….

As I stood in that box it all clicked that this whole experience is a blessing! I realized why he said I was doing a good job even though I felt I wasn’t, he was letting me know that “t ain’t perfect but we work towards perfection”. I stepped outside of my comfort zone and did it even though it wasn’t the best I went through with it and now I have to perfect it which I WILL!

To Melany J. Silas THANK YOU for the encouragement and the opportunity and for taking a chance with me. Words can’t express the profound impact you have made in my life.. YOU are a true inspiration!
