Black Panther Painting To Replace Pickaninny Art At Ontario beach Carousel

Written by on May 21, 2018

We finally have a picture that will replace the original “pickaninny” art on the Dentzel carousel at Ontario Beach that depicted African-Americans in demeaning and negative way.
#Frontliners you are going to love this one!

The painting that has been selected to permanently replace the old image at the Dentzel carousel features a black panther which was selected by the City of Rochester and Mayor Lovely Warren!
What a symbolic, beautiful, and powerful message the black panther will represent through the art work.

The piece selected was done by Rochester artist Michael DeLuca who was chosen out of 30 submissions from artists to replace the panel.
DeLuca told 13WHAM that the black panther has “a lot of deep, internal meaning,” he goes on to say, “and the colors I used reflect that as well, with the purples representing mystery and power, and the position of the cat, everything was taken into consideration to deliver the power, grace, and spirit of the animal.”
We are here for it!!
