(DAIQUON)– 29 Homicides occurred in Rochester in 2017. Compare that to the number of homicides we had in 2016 which was 31 percent higher … I see progress in our community but as our community would say “that’s just not enough.”

Mothers of murder victims are coming together as ONE to try to stop the violence that we all have been experiencing these last couple of years.
Lentory Johnson and Toni Nelson both experienced a loss of a loved one due to violence. Together they are creating a quilt to raise awareness of homicides in Rochester.
They are calling their initiative the Quilt Project. The quilt symbolizes pain and also let people know that they were once loved. They are asking families of homicide victims to send sentimental things that belonged to the victims to add to a quilt. Once completed the quilt will do a tour around Rochester. It will be displayed in prominent areas in the city.
If you want to send in pictures, pieces of clothing or anything else, message “Toni Nelson” on Facebook
