WorldStarHipHop Movie In Development, Russell Simmons Involved
by News

WorldStarHipHop, one of the most visited destinations on the Web, has become a pop culture phenomenon. Now, a movie based on the shock and urban culture site is said to be in the works and Hip-Hop mogul Russell Simmons is involved.

Deadline reports that Paramount's Insurge label, which funds micro-budget and smaller films, heard a pitch from How To Make It In America creator Ian Edelman and accepted. Edelman is currently penning a script for the film, and could also sign on to direct as well.

Plot is being kept under wraps but is described as being akin to Ferris Bueller's Day Off in tone. Hip hop impresario Russell Simmons has come aboard to produce alongside Douglas Banker, Trevor Engelson, and site founder Q Worldstar for Def Pictures, Woven, Underground, and World Star Hip Hop respectively as filmmakers eye a Fall shoot in New York City.

WorldStarHipHop's influence is undeniable although what the site typically promotes isn't the best images of Black youth and Hip-Hop culture. However, with 30 million unique visitors per month, WorldStarHipHop has cornered a particular market and isn't going away anytime soon.
