Transit Guards To Be Unarmed,Ex Police Or Military
by News

Private security guards hired to patrol the new Downtown Transit Center will likely be unarmed, paid at a slightly higher rate than those at other public bus system facilities in Rochester and have experience in law enforcement or with the military, public records show.

Contracts and bid documents obtained by the Democrat and Chronicle through Freedom of Information Law requests provide a glimpse into how the Rochester-Genesee Regional Transportation Authority, or RGRTA, will handle security at its flagship project.

The documents show that the authority is keenly aware that safety and security will shape the public´┐Żs view of the $50 million facility, which is scheduled to open Nov. 28. The agency released a document describing the project to security firms late last year that said the 26-bay bus terminal will be "a very high-profile, public, high foot traffic and busy environment."
