Two of the biggest gripes about visiting downtown Rochester are buses clogging up Main Street and not enough parking there.
Senator Charles Schumer is paving the way to secure a $1.6 million federal Department of Transportation grant to put 50 new parking spaces along East Main Street, improve sidewalks and make downtown more of a destination.
"It'll make Main Street a beautiful, beautiful street. The kind people will want to come to to live, to shop, to work," said Sen. Schumer, D-New York.
The bus problem is on its way to being solved. A new bus terminal opening in the fall will get buses off of Main Street.
The money the city has applied for comes from a $50 million pool to be split among New York communities. Schumer said when considering the criteria, Rochester should be at the top of the list.
