The Rochester Police Department is looking for feedback as it pivots from two to five patrol sections.
Tuesday, the first of five community input meetings was held on Webster Avenue in Rochester.
Before 2004, the RPD was divided into seven patrol sections. Chief Michael Ciminelli brought back newly appointed Deputy Chief Fred Bell, who is familiar with the section model.
"He really personifies the model that we're trying to establish here. He was actually commanding captain of four of the old seven sections so he actually has experience in different parts of the city and we think he's going to be great not only with the community, with his background and his ties, but also mentoring our supervisors and younger command officers," said Ciminelli.
Ciminelli said by the end of May, the department will have a more detailed plan for the mayor, that will include community input.
The five-section model is meant to give officers greater presence in the neighborhoods.
