Four Rochester women were arrested at a Henrietta hotel Wednesday on prostitution charges. It's a crime that's becoming more prevalent in communities throughout Monroe County.
Many point to Lyell Avenue in Rochester when talking about prostitution, but the trade is not limited to that part of the city. In the town of Gates, police say prostitution is a crime that demands more attention.
They say the majority of business is conducted in hotels and motels and there are some establishments police keep a close eye on.
Police also say finding a prostitute is rather easy.
"Prostitution has evolved over the years. Social media and technology is a great thing but these people involved in these incidents are using social media and internet. So you can basically go on internet now and research and find people advertising this type of service and it's very disturbing," said Sgt. Lance Duffy, Gates Police Department.
Police in Gates say the prostitutes they arrest are often as young at 16 years old. They say most are addicted to drugs and use the money to feed the habit.
