Rochester City Council has a major vote scheduled on the Inner Loop project at this month's meeting.
Council will vote on spending the $27.3 million to fill in an aging section of the sunken highway. The vote includes transferring property from the state to the city.
The eastern portion of the Inner Loop will be turned into an at-grade boulevard. About eight acres of land will be freed up for development. The project is supposed to beautify the area and remove a barrier between downtown and the surrounding neighborhood. It will also be easier for pedestrians and cyclists to navigate.
The vote is the first signal by the Warren administration that it is fully committed to this project, which was recently awarded $17.3 million in federal funding.
