West Webster Tragedy: Honoring Our Fallen Heroes
by news

News10NBC has all-day coverage Tuesday dedicated to the first responders wounded and killed one year ago in Webster.

On the morning of Christmas Eve, 2012, West Webster firefighters responded to calls for a fire near 191 Lake Road in. A lone gunman shot at the firefighters when they arrived at the scene.

Firefighters Ted Scardino and Joseph Hofstetter were injured in the attack. Webster Police Lieutenant and West Webster firefighter Michael Ciapperini, along with firefighter Tomasz Kaczowka, were killed by the shooter. The man responsible was later identified as William Spengler. Police say Spengler took his own life after that attack.

On Tuesday, family, friends and colleagues will gather for a private ceremony at the site of the attack to remember the injured and fallen heroes.

News10NBC will also cover a procession of first responders after that ceremony, at 6 a.m. A candlelight vigil after the memorial will be streamed here.

The public is invited to view the memorial on Lake Road between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
