Wilmorite Get Tax Agreement To Expand Marketplace Mall
by news

Rochester, N.Y. - All roads lead to Marketplace mall, according to the commercials for the mall and new stores and restaurants are coming soon.

On Tuesday Comida, the County's Industrial Management Agency, approved a tax agreement for the mall. The only change- the tax incentives will be in effect for 20 years instead of 25. Comida's Executive Director Judy Seil said it was modified because of concerns expressed by the Rush-Henrietta school district and taxpayers.

Wilmorite said it will begin construction on the 30 million dollar redevelopment plan in a month.

We don't know the names of the businesses yet, but Dennis Wilmot said one of the big stores--is new to New York State. Wilmot says it is a name people know and will be a destination spot for tourists. He said it

Will draw people from a five-county area. It will be built on the site of the old DSW store in the mall. Two other stores, which are new to Rochester, will be built in the Bon Ton building, which will be revamped once the store closes in February.

here will also be three free-standing restaurants built between the Bon-Ton building and the new box store. They won't open until 2015, but two of the new stores and possibly all three, could be open by next Christmas.

Though some taxpayers are relieved the terms of the agreement were changed, they still worry about the longterm effects of these deals for businesses and question if they really create jobs that benefit the economy.

The mall expansion will create 170 new full-time jobs over the next three years.
