Earlier this week, Rochester City School District superintendent Bolgen Vargas made several proposals to help get city schools back on track.
One of those proposals has colleges and universities taking control of some city schools. Colleges and universities would get district funding and manage the schools with the power of a superintendent.
It's a proposal that has sparked some debate and on Thursday night school board president Malik Evans told us the idea is worth considering.
"It can provide great opportunities for students to be connected to colleges at an early age, and I've always been a supporter of making sure that we use colleges and universities here in Rochester, but also around the country. Students need to understand that they have the ability to go on to higher education and be successful," said Evans.
The proposal for college control of schools would require state approval.
