Local business, school and community leaders will come together Wednesday for a summit meeting dedicated to raising our area's high school graduation rates.
Rochester is one of 15 cities across the U.S. hosting a "Grad Nation" summit - a locally organized but nationally developed program. The summits are a program by America's Promise Alliance, an organization founded by General Colin Powell and his wife. The "Dropout Prevention Program" was introduced in 2008, and Rochester hosted a summit in 2009.
More than 300 hundred people will attend Wednesday's event at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. The day will include workshops on youth development and community support.
The New York state Department of Education says that only 43.4% of students graduated on time in 2012 in the Rochester City School District.
The "Grad Nation" summit begins at 8 a.m..
