Local Agencies Start To Re-Open After Shutdown
by news

Local agencies and parks affected by the government shutdown are starting to get back to work.

RochesterWorks got word from the Department of Labor that funding has been restored. It had to close its North Goodman St. location, furlough 42 employees and cancel workshops during the shutdown.

The non-profit agency runs programs helping people find employment. It depends on federal funding.

"We are servicing or dealing with 750-1,000 customers a week through the Career Center. So obviously there's a delay. Customers can access the computers and go online and things of this nature but delays developing specific employment plans, and training plans. It really puts a crimp in a time frame to get back to work. Hopefully because it's only been a few days the bottleneck won't be too great, we'll be able to get caught up," said Peter Pecor, Executive Director at RochesterWorks.

RochesterWorks employees will be back at their desks Friday getting schedules re-organized. They are not federal employees so they will not get any back pay.

The agency will be back open to the public Monday.
