A former union president has pleaded guilty to failing to maintain records.
Between 2003 and 2012, Mark Valerio of Macedon served as president of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 249 in Geneva. He also held a position as an officer on the executive board of a labor organization affiliated with four IBEW locals.
Valerio admitted that he submitted duplicate claims for reimbursement of travel expenses to both organizations. He also claimed reimbursements for expenses in which he was already being compensated by his employer.
The charge carries up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Valerio would also be prohibited from holding a leadership role in a labor organization for 13 years.
Sentencing is Dec. 2.
