Soulful crooner Anthony Hamilton (pictured) was arrested early Sunday morning in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina for a DWI, according to TMZ.
Hamilton, who is a Charlotte, N.C. native and resident, was speeding according to state troopers which is why they pulled him over.
Officers allege that when they approached the platinum-selling recording artist's vehicle, they immediately noticed he was intoxicated, so they cuffed and booked him on the DWI charges.
Grammy Award-winning Hamilton, whose 2003 mega chartbuster, "Comin From Where I'm From," put him on a fast track to stardom.
ironically, he was involved just last year with MLB player Derek Jeter's Turn 2 Foundation.
The organization was set up to create programs and activities for young people, so that they could move away from drug abuse and alcohol and, instead, "turn 2" healthier lifestyle choices like striving for academic excellence, leadership development and more positive behavior.
The 42-year-old singer, songwriter, producer performed at a charity event for the organization and refused to accept any monies for his performance because he was so impressed by the work that the organization was doing.
Hamilton, who himself has six children, one of whom was born just a year ago, was released hours later from a county jail. and faces a future court appearance.
