Militants Said To Ambush Egyptian Police In Sinai

A day after the Egyptian government acknowledged that its security forces had killed 36 Islamists in its custody, suspected militants were reported on Monday to have killed at least 24 police officers in an attack on their minibuses in the restive northern Sinai region.

News reports said that the ambush on Monday morning had occurred in a village near the border town of Rafah and that three police officers had been wounded. It was the latest in a series of attacks in Sinai since the military forced Mr. Morsi from office on July 3.
