Rochester, N.Y. - Buying a home can be a stressful and expensive endeavor.
But it may be a little bit easier for some Rochester City School District employees.
"This is also good for new employees coming to the district who are thinking about buying a home, good for renters thinking about buying a home," said Malik Evans, RCSD Board President.
Partnering with the city, the school district has been added to the list of employers to offer a city residency incentive program.
The district has 10 - $3,000 grants for employees to use on a down payment or closing costs on a home in the city.
And first-time home buyers could also qualify for another $3,000 grant from the city.
"I think it's important because they get the opportunity to interact with the folks who they are serving they're serving the students in the city of Rochester," said Evans. "It gives them the opportunity to do that but also helps stabilize the city."
Some of the qualifications for the program are employees must live in the property for five years and they must remain an employee of the city school district.
District officials say if the incentive program is well received and successful they hope to expand it in the future.
