James Madison High School Alumni Hold "Family" Reunion
by News

Rochester, N.Y. - Former Rochester City School District classmates are redefining the term "old school."

Alumni of James Madison High School held a high school reunion in every sense of the word Saturday night at the Riverside Convention Center.

Instead of holding a class-specific reunion, Madison grads held a "family" reunion, inviting everyone that ever walked the halls of the school.

James Madison was torn down in 1981, but to hear the conversations and to see the family atmosphere, you would think Saturday night's participants picked up their diplomas last year.

"This is very special to us. Its actually pretty emotional," said Anita Swift-Myers. "We have people here that have graduated from 1929 all the way up until the school closed. It means a lot to everybody because they did close our school, but they never ever stopped us from coming together."

Swift-Myers, who now lives in Chicago, said people have come from as far away as Alaska.

As for that Class of 1929 graduated that Swift-Myers mentioned, that would be Mrs. Bullock, who is now 100 years old.
