University of Rochester Alumnus Picked To Be NASA Trainee

A former University of Rochester student is has been picked to be part of the 21st astronaut class.
Josh Cassada, 39, was one of eight picked to be a NASA trainee. Six-thousand people applied.

NASA says these trainees could become the first American astronauts to launch from the U.S. since the space shuttle program ended.

Cassada is a former naval aviator from White Bear Lake, Minnesota. He has received advanced degrees from the University of Rochester. Cassada is currently a chief technology officer for Quantum Opus.

NASA says the trainees are ready to lead the first human mission to an asteroid, and then continue on to Mars.
