Rochester, N.Y. - A Rochester man was charged Monday in connection with the shooting of a pregnant woman on Danforth Street last month.
A Monroe County Grand Jury indicted Samuel J. Smith, 23, on charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and first-degree criminal use of a firearm.
On May 20, Smith allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired at a 17-year-old pregnant woman - striking her in the upper abdomen.
The woman was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital, where she was received emergency treatment and was stabilized. Both the woman and her unborn child survived the attack and were released recently from the hospital after three weeks of treatment.
Samuel Smith remains held in Monroe County Jail on $100,000 bail of $250,000 bond. He will be arraigned on the charges June 19th.
