Rochester, N.Y. It wasnt an ordinary lemonade stand serving up cold drinks Saturday at the Rochester Public Market.
It was Alexs Lemonade Stand, a nationwide foundation that raises money to fight childhood cancer.
The foundation pays tribute to a young girl named Alex Scott, who died of cancer in 2004 at age 8.
The stand raised more than $2,000 Saturday and will be at the Brighton Farmers Market Sunday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Money raised from the stand in the Rochester area will go toward finding better treatment for kids with leukemia.
We've made a lot of progress, said Michael Baranello, a University of Rochester graduate student. We started from scratch, basically, with this project, so now we're getting into more complex studies, and hopefully we'll get renewed and we'll do more later on."
