Candice Glover Wins American Idol, 1st Woman In 6 Years

Candice Glover is the queen of American Idol's 12th season as the R&B performer became the first woman in six years to win the Fox singing competition.

The 23-year-old from St. Helena Island, S.C., won the viewer vote over country singer Kree Harrison, 22, in what was Idol's second all-female finale and the first since Season 3.

Glover, who had auditioned twice before, in Seasons 9 and 11, said afterward, "I'm happy I came back, and that I was determined enough and it finally paid off."

Many consider Glover and Harrison one of the better finals duos of recent years. Both outlasted third-place finisher Angie Miller, an earlier favorite who also has received much praise for her talents as a singer.
