IRS Behaving Badly By Scrutinizing Conservative Groups?
by News

Washington - More about the IRS's treatment of political groups is coming to light.

Several groups tried to register as tax exempt organizations back in 2010. An IRS watchdog agency found that some of those groups received extra scrutiny. That included groups with the words "tea party" in their names or groups that "criticize how the country is being run."

The acting IRS Commissioner knew of the problem for at least a year and did not, apparently, take any action.

"They wanted to know very specific details concerning people that came to our meetings, people that spoke," said Carol Waddell of the Waco, Texas Tea Party.

"When you use the IRS in this fashion, you're basically limiting free speech," "said Louisiana Tea Party spokesman Cecil Cavanaugh. "And that's not good for any of us."

President Obama said that the IRS cannot be biased and vowed to take corrective action.

House Republicans will interrogate the acting IRS Chief on Friday.
