Rochester, N.Y. - The city says the East End garage is in desperate need of repair.
You can't see much of the damage, but city officials say it's there and will lead to significant problems if not fixed in the next few years.
The garage was originally funded by the Cultural Center Commission, but the city will soon take ownership of the structure.
City leaders stress the importance of maintaining the garage -- a vital part of a thriving community.
"The East End garage is very important to the cultural district and we have more and more energy there," said Elaine Spaull, Rochester City Councilwoman. "More people living there, more people just coming down for the RPO. We want people to feel welcome and the east end garage is right centrally located so we have to keep that going."
City leaders say there's no immediate danger, and that this move is simply preventive.
The project would be funded through bonding and a public hearing is scheduled later this month.
