LeBron James Should Win MVP and DPOY

Call me crazy if you'd like, but in my opinion LeBron James is the unanimous Most Valuable Player and the Defensive Player of the Year.

It's hard to argue against LeBron winning MVP, especially now that Kobe Bryant is hurt and will not be able to be lead his team to the playoffs. But when speaking about the Defensive Player of the Year, many will question LeBron as the winner. He's won every individual award for which he has been eligible except Defensive Player of the Year.

Why is LeBron the DPOY? Who else do you know that guards all five positions? How about in one game? Don't worry; I'll wait for your response. LeBron is the type of player that can guard Knicks PG Jason Kidd, then guard SF Carmelo Anthony and then will end up guarding C Tyson Chandler (another candidate for DPOY.) Not only guard them, but also guard them effectively. That is a skill that not even Michael Jordan had. James is the only player averaging 1.7 steals and 0.9 blocks per game and the first to do it in four years. Of the eight defensive play types, which include defending the pick-and-roll, post-ups and isolation, James rates as excellent or very good in half of them. Of the three players who finished ahead of him last year in the DPOY voting, none rate better in the three categories. James runs a defense that most consider will help Miami capture its second straight title.

The Defensive Player of the Year usually goes to a Center, but with a dominant Center missing from the league besides Dwight Howard (reigning DPOY) the award should be considered for another position. Dwight Howard has an up and down year with the Lakers and his chances of repeating will be haunted by that. Why not go a different direction and pick somebody that averages nice numbers in all defensive categories?

I begin my campaign now.

LEBRON JAMES FOR DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR!
